Home remedies for high blood pressure

Home remedies which involve consuming natural foods can help people suffering from high blood pressure. The following are few such remedies which can easily be combined with a person’s normal medication, without the fear of any side effects-

  • Grapefruit- A high blood pressure patient would do well to include grapefruit in his/her diet. Grapefruits contain vitamins and nutrients which keep the arteries healthy.
  • Dried/roasted water melon seeds- Water melon seeds contain a substance which can lower the blood pressure.
  • Potatoes- High blood pressure patients are generally advised to avoid salt or eat salt free diets, therefore they would benefit from making boiled potatoes a part of their regular diet as they (boiled potatoes) absorb very little salt.
  • Brown rice- Brown rice is great for blood pressure patients as they are low in fats, cholesterol and salt. They are also rich in calcium which helps in relaxing the nervous system.

Apart from these home remedies high blood pressure patients must also take good care of their diet and avoid foods with high content of fats and sugar. They would also do well to avoid substances like nicotine, caffeine and alcohol.
