Home remedies for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is condition in which the bones become extremely weak, fragile and prone to fractures. The disease is generally caused by calcium deficiency and often occurs in old age. Women are considered more susceptible to this disease. Eating a balanced diet and lifting light weights are two ways that can help in preventing osteoporosis. However, if you are already suffering from it, appropriate medical treatment along with the following home remedies can help in curing it-

  • • Increasing your intake of dairy products such as milk and cheese can help in making the bones stronger.
  • • Make sure you include calcium rich foods like almonds, tofu, sardines etc in your diet to improve the health of your bones.
  • • Consuming foods rich in minerals like magnesium, potassium as well as vitamin A and D help in increasing the absorption of calcium in the body, therefore make sure include these nutrients in your diet.

Apart from these home remedies, water based exercises can also help people suffering from osteoporosis. While it’s a well known fact that exercise helps in making the bones stronger, doing it in involves minimal stress on the joints and bones. However, you must consult your doctor before taking up any aqua-exercise program.
