Home remedies for diarrhea

Eating the wrong kind of food (food cooked in unhygienic conditions), overeating, toxins in food substances or certain parasites, virus and bacteria etc can lead to diarrhea. Children in developing countries are especially prone to it and sometimes people visiting these countries may also catch the disease. Treating it at the right time is important, as diarrhea can cause extreme dehydration and in some cases even death. Appropriate medicines along with the following home remedies can help in curing this disease-

  • • Drinking lots of carrot soup can help in curing diarrhea. The water content in the soup helps in combating dehydration and carrots provide essential minerals like phosphorus, calcium and magnesium etc to the body.
  • • A mixture of dry ginger powder and rock salt can help in providing relief from diarrhea caused by indigestion.
  • • Bottle gourd juice is also beneficial for people suffering from diarrhea.
  • • Consuming butter milk can also help in curing diarrhea, however, travelers who do have access to home made buttermilk should avoid this home remedy.

Finally, make sure you eat light non-spicy meals and drink lots of water to get rid of diarrhea.
