Heated Foot Massager for Foot Pain

Foot pain can have many causes, but foot pain that does not stem from an injury may be the result of overwork and exhaustion after being on one’s feet all day. A foot massage can not only relieve foot pain, but also relax the entire body. However, not everyone has a friend or family member available to massage his or her feet, and some people are not comfortable massaging their own feet or cannot reach them easily. In such situations, a heated foot massager can be a blessing. Foot massagers vary widely in price, from $20-30 up to around $500. Some have a spa function that allows you to add water and soak the feet while they are being massaged. Others will massage not only your feet, but your ankles and calves.

Using a Heated Foot Massager to Ease Foot Pain

Method

  • Depending on the model of foot massager you buy, you may either put your feet on the foot pads, or fill the massager with water first (if it is a foot soak/spa version) and then insert your feet.
  • Turn the massager on and enjoy.

Why It Works

Massage helps tense muscles to relax, and helps muscles to release lactic acid, a waste product that is produced during muscle metabolism. Massage also improves blood circulation to the area that is being massaged. Sore muscles often benefit from getting more oxygen as blood flow to the area improves. At the same time, massage stimulates the body to release endorphins, chemicals that stimulate the nerve cells of the brain. All endorphins are analgesics, which means that they reduce pain.

Precautions

Do not massage a foot that you suspect might be injured. If you suspect an injury, be gentle with your foot, staying off it as much as possible and consulting your doctor as soon as you can.
