Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks

Cacao

Cocoa butter is the vegetable fat from a cacao bean, and is popular both in food applications and health and beauty products. In chocolate and other foods, it lends smoothness and acts as a natural preservative. It also gives chocolate its "melt in your mouth" goodness, because its melting point is the temperature of the human body. In cosmetic applications, it is a rich moisturizer and has a pleasant scent.

Cocoa butter treatment for stretch marks

Method

Cocoa butter is found in many commercially-available stretch mark lotions and creams. Apply as directed on the package, generally at least twice a day.

Why It (sort of) Works

Cocoa butter is a rich emollient that can penetrate the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) and reach the dermis (the second layer). It can then act as an effective moisturizer deep within the skin and may help prevent stretch marks. It does not have the ability to help skin regenerate, or boost the production of collagen, so it likely has no effect on existing stretch marks.

Precautions

Stop use and contact your doctor if you develop a skin rash or other allergic reaction.
