Apple cider vinegar

A lot of people swear by apple cider vinegar as a home remedy for heartburn.

Apple cider vinegar heartburn home remedy

If you're hardcore you can simply take a teaspoon of straight cider vinegar. For something a little bubblier try the following.

Method

  • Mix 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar with a little sugar
  • Add about 6 ounces water
  • Add a little baking soda and drink while fizzy

Why agent works

Apple cider vinegar, an acid, causes the esophageal sphincter to contract and keeps acid in the stomach.

Precautions

Vinegar can dissolve tooth enamel if used too frequently. Follow vinegar consumption with a glass of water or drink it through a straw to keep it away from the teeth.

Just a small correction,

Just a small correction, apple cider vinegar is not a base, it is an acid. The reason it might work as a remedy for heartburn is because it closes the sphincter between the esophagus and the stomach. If you add baking soda and water, however, you create a buffering solution which will help neutralize stomach acid.

Well I must say that I

Well I must say that I suffered from heartburn this evening. It felt like my left breast was on fire. I tried the Apple Cider Vinegar and was so surprised at how fast it worked. I took it straight, one teaspoon, although I was shocked at the horrible taste it was very effective. Thanks for the much needed help!!
