Ginger and Lemon Tea for Fever

ginger.jpg
Zingiber officinale

Fever is the rising of the internal body temperature above the normal range, generally caused by the body’s immune response to a bacteria or virus. Often, fever is accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue, chills, shivering, and lack of appetite. In severe cases, fever can cause brain damage or death, when it rises above the maximum temperature the brain or body is able to manage.

Ginger and Lemon Tea to Reduce Fever

Method

  • Tea bags with lemon and ginger are commercially available, steep according to package directions and drink as needed. To make your own, grate 3 teaspoons of fresh ginger and steep in one cup boiling water. Strain and add lemon to taste (honey may also be added for flavor.)

Why It Works

Ginger and lemon both induce sweating, which helps bring down fever.

Precautions

Please consult your healthcare provider if your fever persists, or if you have other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches or rash. Fever is a symptom of an underlying problem, which may require treatment. Ginger is generally safe during pregnancy, but consult your doctor to be sure.
