fatigue

Fatigue is a subjective symptom; in other words, it is not measurable. People suffer fatigue for many different reasons. Illness, stress, overwork and lack of sleep may all contribute to fatigue. Fatigue can affect all aspects of your life, including work, social life and relationships. It is a common symptom that everyone experiences from time to time. It is important to visit your doctor to have your fatigue evaluated if your fatigue started suddenly, continues indefinitely or is associated with other symptoms (i.e. fever, weight loss, depression) that may signal a serious health problem.

Fatigue and Walking

Method

  • If you do not normally exercise, begin slowly and gradually increase both your walking pace and the time spent walking, until you can comfortably walk at a brisk pace for 20 minutes.
  • Try to walk every day.

Why It Works

Walking has been shown to improve mood and reduce stress, as well as promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. Feeling better physically often translates to feeling less fatigued. In addition to improving fatigue, walking reduces your risk of heart disease and can help you lose weight.

Precautions

Before beginning any exercise program, it is a good idea to see your physician to ensure that it is safe for you to exercise, especially if you have any health problems.
