Probably the easiest thing to

Probably the easiest thing to do for peri-menopausal or menopausal insomnia is to use progesterone cream. It is available over-the-counter and can be applied nightly. Progesterone will not only help ease some of the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, but it also can cause drowsiness and generally helps with insomnia in menopausal women.

There are also phytoestrogen creams available for use. However, there are a few caveats for using it. First, if you have an intact uterus, you will need both the phytoestrogens and progesterone. Second, phytoestrogens are weaker versions of estrogen made by plants. When taken alone, they may sliglty decrease menopausal symptoms. If you take them in combination with prescribed hormonal therapies, they can decrease effectiveness becuase they compete for receptors in tissues sensitive to estrogen.

If the problem cannot be resolved with these measures, be sure to consult with a licensed healthcare professional. There may be another reason for your insomnia besides hormonal changes.
