My first recommendation is that you get this checked out by a qualified healthcare professional. Sometimes, cardiac problems can present as heartburn so I would want to make sure you have a diagnosis of reflux or acid indigestion before you try any remedies.

There are many lifestyle changes you can make that can affect heartburn. First, eat small frequent meals instead of large ones. Next, don't eat anything for 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. You can prop the head of your bed up with wood or cement blocks to allow gravity to pull food down into the stomach at night when you are sleeping. Propping your body up on pillows does not create the same beneficial effect and may in fact increase pressure on the cardiac sphincter of the stomach, causing increased reflux.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, wine, chocolate, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and spicy foods as these exacerbate stomach acidity. Some medications and herbal supplements may also increase acidity.

You can take licorice as a supplement. Ginger is also known to calm the stomach.
