The best treatment for yeast infections is to prevent them. There are some things you can do to try and stop them from occuring int he first place.

First, maintain proper hygeine, changing underwear regularly and wearing undergarments made of breathable materials such as cotton. Second, avoid wearing wet clothing such as bathing suits for an extended period of time. Third, help maintain the proper vaginal pH which is acidic by not using douches. Spermicides and lubiricants may alter vaginal pH, making it more prone to developing yeast overgrowth.

Traditional treatment of yeast infections are over-the-counter antifungal creams or ovules which are inserted into the vaginal for 3 to 7 days. These are generally quite safe and effective as a cure.

If you go to a compounding pharmacy, you can also obtain lactobacillus suppositories to help maintain proper healthy flora in the vagina. You can also consume active culture yogurt regularly and/or take probiotic supplements.

Finally, you can use boric acid suppositories which can also be obtained by prescription at a compounding pharmacy. These work by increasing the acidity of the vagina which makes it harder for yeast to overgrow.
