My Aunt's doctor gave her the suggestion to use prune juice, apple sauce and bran for constipation, but did not tell her how much of each to mix together. Do you know? Thanks in advance Linda Pitcher

There are various formulas

There are various formulas for the mixture to which you are referring. Here are two possibilities, and I'm sure if you search around, you can find many more recipies as well.

1 cup applesauce
1 cup bran fiber, unrefined
3/4 cup prune juice

Blend together and drink 1 to 2 tablespoonsful every day followed by 8 ounces of water. Keep the mixture in the fridge.

OR

1/2 cup applesauce
4 tablespoonsful of bran, unrefined
6 ounces prune juice

Blend together and drink 1 tablespoonful every day. Keep mixture in the fridge. Drink plenty of fluids.

The is mixture works on three levels - the applesauce provides fiber and flavor, the bran provides bulk fiber, and the prune juice contains a chemical called dihydrophenylisatin that is a mild colon stimulant.
