Ask a Question
What causes yeast infections?
Yeast infections are caused by a fungus called candida albicans. C. albicans can cause infections in any moist area of the body - the mouth, folds of the skin, under fingernails, male genitalia and the vagina. The remedies found here are primarily concerned with genital yeast infections. Despite the perception of yeast infections as a "feminine problem," men can get yeast infections, too. This is important to remember because, although yeast infection is not considered a sexually transmitted disease, sex partners can pass a yeast infection back and forth almost indefinitely.
