Latest Stomach Ulcer Questions and Answers
What is an ulcer?
Medically speaking, an ulcer is any kind of open sore. However, when most people talk about an ulcer they are talking about a peptic ulcer, a sore in the stomach lining or the duodenum (the first section of the small intestine). Peptic ulcers, a.k.a. stomach ulcers, cause discomfort and pain and if not taken care of can lead to internal bleeding, perforation of the stomach wall or even intestinal obstruction. Lifestyle has a definite influence on ulcers -- smoking, drinking and of course stress are potential contributors -- but research now shows that most ulcers are due to an infection with the H. Pylori bacteria. You will find some tips for ulcer management here at GrannyMed but please see a doctor if you believe that you have a peptic ulcer.
