What is a cold sore?
Cold sores also referred to as "fever blisters," are caused by the herpes virus. They usually occur on and around the lips and sometimes below the nostrils. In most cases cold sores are caused by herpes type 1 which is different from the type 2 that is associated with genital herpes. If you suffer from cold sores or fever blisters you are probably familiar with that tingling feeling that precedes them. After this preliminary sign it's only a matter of time before the site of infection turns red then starts to blister and scab. Everyone hates cold sores because they are painful and extremely unattractive. If you repeatedly suffer from cold sores you should consult a doctor.
