What is eczema?

eczema painting

The word "eczema" comes from a Greek word that means to "boil over." This characterizes the itchy, hot feeling and rash that is symptomatic of eczema, a recurring itchy inflammation of the skin. The cause of eczema is not entirely understood but the latest research theorizes that it is related to autoimmune dysfunction. Stress, diet, genetics and topical factors all play a role in eczema outbreaks.
