What are brown spots or age spots?
"Age spots," a.k.a. "liver spots," "brown spots," and "solar lentigo," are melanin-heavy patches of skin that usually occur on areas of the skin that are normally exposed to the sun, such as the hands. For the record, they have nothing to do with your liver. True age spots are not a cause for anything other than aesthetic concern. Brown spots in general may be a sign of skin cancer, especially if they are raised and show signs of change, and should be monitored.
