Arteriosclerosis is a chronic disease, commonly called "hardening of the arteries," including thickening of the arterial walls which makes them lose elasticity.
Arteriosclerosis develops with aging. The cause for arteriosclerosis is not certain but related to: genes, obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol levels, smoking, lack of exercise, and more.
