Acne Definition
Acne is a skin condition resulting from blocked hair follicles. Technically speaking, even non-inflamed blackheads are considered acne but for most people, swollen whiteheads (pustules) and inflammed red spots (papules) are of greatest concern. These cosmetically unappealing and sometimes painful acne sores are usually the result of pores becoming clogged with sebum (an oil produced by the skin) and accumulating bacteria. There is no cure for acne but its symptoms can be treated and, in some cases, mitigated with agents that cleanse the skin and reduce inflammation. There are some very powerful medications available that will clear up acne in most people, but they are expensive, produce harsh side effects and have unkown long-term consequences. Therefore, home remedies using herbs and natural products are ideal for acne treatment.
