Pain in the lower back is very common. In fact it is probably as common as the common cold. About eight out of ten people have had a back problem, or will have a back problem in their life. The backache is one of the common pain. Almost every person will have at least one backache sometime in his life. The pain in the lower back can vary from severe and long term to smooth and brief pain. In most people the back pain will disappear within a few weeks.

Although backaches are very common, we know very little about pain in lower back. The lower back is complex, consisting of near ten diverse structures including the smooth bones, nerves, muscles, discs, and other fine weaves. It is impossible to know for sure that the structure is responsible for the back pain. In most cases, the pain in lower back is unaccompanied by any abnormality. On the other hand, many people without back problems turn out to have discs problems. Therefore, although somebody has pain in the lower back and an abnormality, it is difficult to know if the abnormality is the cause of the back pain.

Hernia of the disc, is when the disc changes the normal position and press on the root of the nerve, only 1-2 percent of patients with backache have hernia.

Today X-rays can show the cause for the back pains, which can be:

1. Back damages.
2. Disk problem (requires surgery).
and more.

The pain of lower back gets more common with age.

Exercise for lower back pain:


Studies of the lower back pain have demonstrated clearly that the only way to recover the function of a spine is to increase the force of the muscles that support the spine and this can only be made by exercise regularly. Medicines reduces the pain only temporary and for short periods but exercise can help for long term. It is best to consult the doctor to get the best exercise for the individual problem.

Treatment for lower back pain:


In most cases, people recover from acute lower back pain in three weeks to three months. In order to treat the backaches the patient need to: rest, take medications from the doctor, have a physical therapy, sometimes lose weight, and more. In worse chronic situations the patient might need to have a back surgery to treat the backache problem.

It is very important to remember that the doctor can only help to relief pain, but the patient is the one that has to keep the therapy to get better, by exercising and maintaining better positions.
