Oenothera spectabilis
Introduction
This native North American wildflower with bright yellow petals that open at dusk is often called "evening star." The seeds of the Evening Primrose flower are a rich source of Omega-6 fatty acids which have wide-ranging health benefits.
Method
Evening Primrose Oil can be found in most drug stores and health food stores. A general dosage recommendation is 240 mg of GLA daily. Ask your health care provider about the proper dosage for you.
Why It Works
Many women who suffer from PMS are deficient in Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA, a type of Omega-6). Evening Primrose Oil is rich in GLA and, when taken consistently, has been found to decrease symptoms such as breast tenderness and menstrual cramping.
Precautions
Reported side effects result from high dosages and include nausea, stomach pain, and headache. Do not be used if you have a seizure disorder, bleeding problems or a blood disorder.
