Reducing Fever

Before we discuss how to rid ourselves of a fever, we must first contend with the fact that fevers are generally deemed valuable to the body. They are the body's way of fighting off infection. By raising the temperature, the fever kills off the invading bacteria. Of course we still have to find a way to lower the body's temperature even if it is helpful in some ways.

The biggest misconception about lowering a fever is that you should "sweat them out." It is all well to stay warm while your body is shivering its way into a fever, but once that fever is established the best thing to do is to let the heat out.

Another recommendation is to drink a lot of fluids. Fevers tend to produce a lot of fluid loss, so it is essential to ingest a lot of fluids to make up for it.

Lastly, remember to lessen your food consumption during your fever. Nutrients can be used by the invading the infection for strength causing the fever to rise rather than lower.
