Home Remedies to Cure a Hangover

A throbbing headache, a dry mouth, bloodshot eyes, nausea and general dizziness…even this vivid description of a hangover is better than the actual effects! Most of us pop painkillers to alleviate the discomfort and pain associated with a hangover, but we all know that pain relieving pills come packed with awful side effects; natural remedies are therefore a better option any day. There are two kinds of natural remedies, the preventive ones, which can help you avoid a hangover and the second type can help in curing a hangover. The following is a list of both-

Preventive home remedies-

  • Drink a glass of water after every drink; this will save you from the dehydrating effects of alcohol.
  • Have at least 2-3 glasses of water before going to bed, you’ll probably have to get up in the middle of the night to pee, but it will at least save you from the awful morning hangover.
  • Make sure you don’t go to bed without eating, you may feel like hitting the bed after a hard night of partying, but a light meal in all probability will save you from a hangover in the morning.

Hangover cures-

Lots of water- Your dehydrated body needs water to feel better. Water can also induce vomiting and throwing up will help in alleviating your headache and general discomfort. Of course you’ll need to drink more water after throwing up, to prevent further dehydration.
Banana shake with honey- Add a teaspoon of honey to glass of banana shake and drink it up. While the banana will help in restoring the level of potassium in your body (excess alcohol lowers potassium levels), honey will help in digesting the alcohol still present in your body.

Ginger and orange drink- Add 5-6 slices of ginger to two cups of boiling water, now add half a cup of orange juice, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and half a cup of honey to this concoction. Let it cool and then drink it up. This drink will help restore the sugar levels in your body.

Finally, a greasy breakfast is also said to cure the side effects of a hangover. However, you must remember that being patient is essential as none of these cures can produce instant results.
